With community support, you'll also glean wisdom and insights from other golfers who have your best interest at heart.
Hi, I’m Kym Coco, founder of Swagtail. While I’ve been teaching yoga for over a decade, I've only been in the golf world for the past three years. In that short time period of time, though, I've lowered my GHIN to 13. I've also holed out an eagle from 108 yards and won 75% of the tournaments I've entered.
Some might attribute this success to playing hours of golf. Yet, I only played once a week during the summer months my first two years in the sport. Other could say it's because I have a masters degree in Sports Kinesiology and deeply understand the human body. Yet, even scientific research has come a long way in the past twenty years to refine this knowledge base.
Instead, I thank one very essential element of my life to this high level of performance: YOGA! Yoga is a practice that strengthens the body and prepares it for the powerful nature of the golf swing. It also addresses the mind, teaching you how to be present in the moment, focused on one thing at a time, and able to confidently visualize your shots for success. I created this course to show you just how you can utilize these simple techniques to improve all aspects of your game right now! I've had a blast using them to increase my success. Now I pass them on to you so you can do the same!
Do I need to have an established yoga practice already?
No, you don’t have to have an understanding or history of yoga to start this course. In fact, just like you want to learn the foundations of golf before you start to play, we cover the basics of yoga in Module 1 of this course. And, if you do already know lots about yoga, you'll discover some amazing ways both yoga and golf overlap!
What if I have physical limitations? Is this yoga in this course something I can do?
What I love about yoga is that you can tailor the practice to meet your specific needs. At each phase of this course, I offer two types of yoga classes. While one utilizes a mat, the other is solely chair-based. This means you can do all parts of this course without ever having to get up or down off of the floor!
Above all else, you will want to get approval from your medical practitioner before starting any new physical activities to your lifestyle.
I have lots of time commitments at the moment? How much time will I need each week to get the most from this course?
There is an hour of new material released to you each week. Plus, repetition of the exercises can help the new learning stick in both the body and mind more readily. While ideally you could spend an additional hour or two each week for that practice, the time you allot for it is entirely up to you.
Like golf, yoga is a timeless activity. You can still acheive great success if you implement this knowledge slowly, over the coming weeks, months, and even years ahead!
Will yoga interfere with any of my religious beliefs?
It's a common myth today that yoga a religion due to its ancient Indian roots. However, we dispell this--and many other myths about yoga--in this course.
Instead, I suggest that yoga is a practice that will increase harmony in your body, mind, and spirit. These are all benefits that can enhance any spiritual or religious practice you already have in place.
